Abstract

This study aims to analyze illocutionary speech acts in the cartoon film Muhammad Al-Fatih using a sociolinguistic approach. The focus of this study is on how the intention behind the utterances is influenced by social variables such as status, power, and interpersonal relationships between characters. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with content analysis techniques applied to the film's dialogue transcripts. Data are identified and classified based on the categories of illocutionary speech acts, which are integrated with the context of the speech situation. The results show that illocutionary speech acts in this film function as a means of negotiating authority and maintaining high norms of politeness. The use of fusha Arabic reinforces the image of authority and religious identity, where the choice of language variety and speaking strategy is strictly determined by the hierarchical position between the
speaker and the listener. These findings highlight that in Islamic historical narratives, language is not merely a means of communication, but an instrument for constructing power and moral identity.
